The Amblin Eighties
No other production company is as identifiable or synonymous with a period of filmmaking as Amblin Entertainment. When you hear the name Amblin, a rush of nostalgic feelings fill your head and your heart. It’s a household name - one that produces a warm glow in the same way that adventures on your BMX bike can or pizza, video games, and VHS marathons during weekend sleepovers with your friends.
Amblin was formed in 1981 by Steven Spielberg, along with fellow collaborators and uber producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. From 1982 to 1989, beginning with E.T. - THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL, Amblin gave us pure movie magic with some of the most beloved classics of the decade, nay, all time.
In celebration of Spielberg’s READY PLAYER ONE (produced in part by Amblin) - a book and film that is very much a love letter to that era of films - we present a retrospective of 6 of those films* back on the big screen as they should be seen.
*Yes, we know this series should include THE GOONIES, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, and YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES. And yes, we are also sad that it does not. But unfortunately the rights to show those films are not available right now.
