As much as we love the silliness of Joel Schumacher’s Batman and the fantastic entries into the Caped Crusader lore that Tim Burton contributed, there’s just not been anything as darkly intense and pulse pounding as the first two Christopher Nolan Dark Knight films. This Thursday at the Alamo Drafthouse we’re watching them back-to-back and finishing the whole Bruce Wayne-a-thon off with the midnight premiere of the FINAL installment in the trilogy: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!
If you’ve already got your tickets to this momentous marathon, there are some things you should know about what will be going down.
1) In order to obey the wishes of the movie studio, you’ll need to purchase your ticket to the midnight premiere of the new film once you arrive at the Alamo. Don’t worry you have a seat saved for the midnight screening, but there does need to be one more transaction before you feast your eyes on the latest visuals from Nolan’s trusty cinematographer Wally Pfister and see Bane be all crazy!
2) You’re going to be in the movie theater for a long time- feel free to plan on comfort! We’ve got the comfiest chairs in town but if you’d like to go all out and bring your commemorative Gary Oldman pillow or your special Heath Ledger blankie from home, feel free to them! You can even bring those wrap-around neck pillow things that they sell in the airport if you feel so inclined. We won’t judge.
3) There will be short breaks between the movies to use the little bats room and to stretch your wings. During these breaks you’ll be treated to EXTRA special Batman preshow content on the big screen that won’t be seen anywhere else!
4) Don’t worry, we’ll have plenty of soda, beer and coffee available to get you thru the day and night! To fully enjoy the 18-wheelers flying through the air and the Joker making pencils disappear you’ve got to stay hydrated (read: heavily caffeinated/ lightly intoxicated)!
Don’t miss all the excellent back to back to back performances from Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal and of course the masterful heavy breathing of Christian Bale. This Thursday’s The DARK KNIGHT Marathon at the Alamo is NOT to be missed!
