Rockie Juarez from IsleOfCinema.com here. What can I say? I love The Fly. David Cronenberg's The Fly still stands as one the best retreads of an old property alongside The Blob ('88) and John Carpenter's The Thing. Proof positive that a remake can speak volumes if it is left in the hands of talent that respects the subject matter, even if it is considered B-movie fodder. More a tale of obsession, this is a film that truly rockets past the genre it's confined to. The opportunity to see Jeff Goldblum do gymnastics, sweat profusely and morph into a huge fly critter at my all time favorite theater is something to fight for. So please join me at Alamo South, before the renovations take place, and see why Cronenberg wields the practical magic better than most directors out today. We only have a very limited time so snag one now. Not convinced? It's for my birthday. I will guilt trip you.
