Shark week may be over but that won’t stop the Alamo Drafthouse – Houston from celebrating the fiercest predators in the sea! This September, Graveyard Shift, our Houston horror society, is teaming up with Tugg to present a special one-night-only screening of BAIT 3D.
BAIT 3D, not to be confused with the 3D re-release of the 2000 Jamie Fox film that somebody in Hollywood is pitching right now, is an Australian shark movie that has a little something extra going for it. In the tradition of SNAKES ON A PLANE and BURNING BRIGHT (the little seen but entirely badass man-eating tiger trapped in a house with an autistic child movie), BAIT 3D is about a shark in a supermarket. Clean-up on aisle three, indeed.
When a freak storm leaves a beach-front community flooded, a group of strangers are trapped in a supermarket with a 12-foot Great White Shark! They must overcome their fear to work together and survive – pretty hard to do when half of the strangers were criminals attempting to rob the supermarket before the flash flood left them trapped together.
This film looks amazingly fun and we can’t wait to share it with Houston audiences in advance of its DVD/Blu-ray release. This is your only chance to see the movie on the big screen and in 3D – the way God intended us to watch movies about killer sharks trapped in supermarkets. Here’s the rub, though – this screening is only going to happen if enough people pre-order their tickets. Tugg is a great new service that allows fans to crowd source film screenings – like Kickstarter does with creative projects.
Tugg has figured out how many tickets need to be sold to cover the costs of showing the film. If that number of pre-sold tickets is not met, the screening just won’t happen. Which would be a shame. So if you want to see this movie on the big screen, buy your ticket today! And spread the word. Tell your friends and neighbors, post about the event on Facebook or even your LiveJournal. Just get the word out there.
As an added bonus, we’ll be partnering up our screening of BAIT 3D with a Weird Wednesday screening of GRIZZLY. That’s a full-night of killer animal movies! Wowza, what did you ever do to deserve this much awesomeness. Whatever it was, keep it up!
