If you're reading this, you probably already know exactly what you need to know to see THE RUM DIARY: it's based on a novel of the same name by the late, great Hunter S. Thompson and stars the greatest character actor of our time, Johnny Depp! Well, we want to celebrate the film in style, so this weekend only at the Ritz we're throwing a big RUM DIARY party and our Beverage Director, Bill Norris, has whipped up a slew of awesome rum specials for you and your friend/lover/date/co-conspirator to enjoy while watching the film.
Here's a peek at some of the delicious rum drinks you can get this weekend:
Dark and Stormy - Maine Root Ginger Brew and Gosling’s Black Seal Rum (RUMor has it this is the Alamo staff favorite)
Hunter’s Ruin - Oakheart Spiced Rum, Orange Juice, Bitters & Soda
Island Negroni - Light Rum, Sweet Vermouth, Aperol
Classic Cuban Daiquri - Light Rum, Lime and Sugar, served straight up
For those keeping score, Depp first portrayed Thompson in Terry Gilliam's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. That movie was brain-melting. Word on the internets is that this take on Thompson is "a refreshing, grounded view of the writer" (Jake Coyle, Associated Press). That'll be interesting to see (through rum-tinted googles, natch). And no matter what, Depp + Thompson x Rum = a pretty combustible equation.
