Due to popular demand, we are bringing Andrzej Zulawski's POSSESSION, a masterful meditation on the hardships of separation, back to Ritz on 35mm! If you missed it the first time, here is your second chance!
POSSESSION will play 2 encore screenings: on Sunday, April 7th and Wednesday, April 10th, both at 7PM.
Why do we love this film so much here at the Drafthouse? Well, you see, viewing POSSESSION is an unforgettable experience. Like all the best and worst things in life, you always remember your first time: POSSESSION leaves marks, scars, a record of its own existence on your psyche. Zulawski's film is so earth-shatteringly beautiful in its composition and technical mastery, while at the same time about a topic so powerfully resonant and relatable as a bad break-up -- you can't help but fall in love, even as you cringe or avert your eyes during certain sequences.. POSSESSION is at its core a movie about that sinking, apocalyptic feeling that resides in your gut following a painful, emotional schism. It is a film that depicts a man (Sam Neill) and woman (Isabelle Adjani) trying desperately to live in spite of themselves and the changing rules of their relationship. POSSESSION will destroy you - and you will love every second.
Seeing POSSESSION for the first time (especially on 35mm!) is a landmark for any cinephile. Seeing it again and again becomes a kind of deep ritual, an experience that only becomes richer with each revisit.
Whether you watch it for the 1st time or your 100th, we hope to see you on Sunday or Wednesday (or both)! (Sam Prime)
