Over 80 lost films rediscovered in New Zealand

Through our work in locating and preserving film prints of the drive-in and exploitation era and our friendship with AGFA (American Genre Film Archive) we've become acutely aware that many, many films are endangered, even ones that are relatively recent. So we were very happy to read about a bunch of even older films that have recently been rediscovered in a New Zealand facility, and are now headed back to the US for archiving and restoration by the National Film Preservation Foundation.

Among the titles rescued from oblivion are a John Ford title, the cinematic equivalent of finding a lost Van Gogh, and the missing first reel of IDLE WIVES, a feature by pioneering female director Lois Weber.

For more about the discovery of the stash of the century (so far) read the NPR story here.
