Off-centered Film Fest 2011

For beer and film nerds alike, the Off-Centered Film Festival is not to be missed.

Off-centered Film Fest 2011

Four years ago we first collaborated with Dogfish Head Craft Ales on the annual Off-centered Film Fest featuring DIY, independent-minded “off-centered films for off-centered people.” Over the years, we’ve showcased the most bizzaro shorts from all corners of the earth, pitted live jazz against forgotten beer commercials and drank more than a few beers. As the craft beer industry has grown and garnered more and more attention so has the festival itself. In an attempt to keep things fresh this year we’ve pulled out all the stops. In addition to the beer feast and shorts screening, we’ve added a whole extra day for outdoor drinking and are bringing in a special guest from one of our favorite off-centered films of all time!

This year’s fest kicks off Thursday, April 14th with a Rolling Roadshow presentation of STRANGE BREW in downtown Austin. We’re taking over Republic Square Park, inflating the giant screen and inviting some of our favorite local breweries to serve up their most badass beers right alongside Dogfish Head. So, while Bob & Doug McKenzie are chugging LaBatts on screen and wolfing down jelly donuts, you’ll be able to partake in the best possible beers Central Texas has to offer and enjoy the best possible Canadian food specials the Alamo can whip up. After the screening, the owners and brewers from our booming hometown scene will participate in a dynamic discussion with Dogfish Head founder, head brewer and boundary pusher Sam Calagione. Get your tickets HERE.

Friday night we FEAST. We are pairing seven vintage and hard to come by Dogfish Head beers with local vegetables and organic meats in a creative fashion that celebrates off-centeredness in cuisine. Alamo Drafthouse Executive Chef John Bullington has crafted pairings that are sure to be enjoyed by everyone who is lucky enough to get a ticket before it fills up. For your viewing pleasure, we’ve tracked down our favorite old-school foamy comedy shorts that feature our favorite beverage including peices from the Three Stooges, Buster Keaton, W. C. Fields, Fatty Arbuckle & MORE. We’ve also got some other surprises lined up for true Dogfish fans!  Get your tickets HERE.

But that’s not all. If your full belly and light head can handle even more awesomeness, stick around Friday night for our screening of WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER with Joe Lo Truglio live in person! You recognize him from everything funny- MTV’s THE STATE, SUPERBAD, RENO 911, I LOVE YOU MAN...not to mention the best motorcycle chase scene in cinematic history- and we are super psyched that he is coming to Austin to watch the movie, drink beer, and hang out with us! Get your tickets HERE.

Saturday night we wrap up the beer-rific weekend with the SHORTS SCREENING, hosted by Sam and Joe. We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that this year’s shorts screening received the most submissions to date. The films this year are all over the place in terms of off-centeredness and a blast to watch. Lest we forget this is a film AND beer festival, there will also be amazingly rare dogfish head beers available at the screening. Be there for the exciting conclusion to learn who will take the glory and prize money of first, second, and third place. Get your tickets HERE.

So buy your tickets, prepare your palate, and line up your cab ride(s). For beer and film nerds alike, this event is not to be missed.
