Greetings friends of Alamo Drafthouse Houston!

Jason Murphy, local beer geek, here to tell you about something exciting we have been working on! Over the past few years we have fostered quite a relationship with our Katy neighbors at No Label Brewing Company. We have worked together on numerous events at the brewery, special screenings, feasts, and some of their illustrious brewers have helped us judge our Home Brew Competitions in the past. Recently I contacted them about possibly participating in another Home Brew Competition, but this time in a different capacity.

I am pleased to officially announce the first ever Alamo Drafthouse and No Label Brewing Company Pro-Am Homebrew Competition - with the grand prize being the opportunity to brew your recipe on a professional system and have it on tap at several Katy and Houston Area locations!

Here is a quick rundown of some important info:

  • Our target style is IPA’s only. We will not be accepting and Double or Imperial IPA’s, that being said we whole heartedly encourage the use of imagination in crafting your recipe. We are looking for not only the best but also most interesting IPA we can get so don’t be afraid to get creative!
  • -All entries will be judged the week after November 1 and we will host an event at the Alamo Drafthouse CInema - Mason Park on November 11 where the eight best overall IPAs will be judged by a panel of special guest judges.
  • The contest is free to enter but will be limited if necessary. If we receive an overwhelming number of entries we will have to cut off registration. We will be accepting registration and beer samples from October 18 to November 1.
  • Texans fans don’t worry! I already checked and that week is an away game and will be the Sunday Night Football game of the week. We plan on getting started around 3:00 PM and will be judging for a couple hours so it should give you plenty of time to get back to your house (or whatever game watching destination you choose) to catch kick off!
  • One of my favorite parts; all proceeds from the sale of the winning beer will be donated to a local charity! Good Beer for a Good Cause!

I am really excited about this competition and I know the Houston Home Brewing scene will not let us down! For a list of full rules and regulations as well as the entry form click the link below:

Good luck to all who enter and I hope to taste your beer sometime in the near future!

Cheers,
Jason Murphy
