If you're a fan of movies where people repeatedly get kicked in the face, the Alamo is the place to be this weekend, no question. In addition to our special engagement run of director Prachya Pinkaew's CHOCOLATE, this Friday night the Alamo Village will be hosting a special one-time only free midnight screening of director Corey Yuen's 1993 masterpiece FONG SAI YUK. We're running this under the banner of "Free Kung Fu Theater", and the hope is that, if enough people show up, this could be a regular thing. It's been a long time since the Alamo has had a regular martial arts program in the calendar, and if you ask me it's about bloody time.
The best thing about this totally free screening is that FONG SAI YUK also happens to be the single greatest martial arts movie of all time in my opinion. Beyond just having great martial arts, it's also a terrifically entertaining comedy with some genuine human emotion mixed in, as unexpectedly moving in some places as it is exciting. And it stars Jet Li in his prime, along with the terrific Josephine Siao and the totally badass Chiu Man Cheuk. And in addition to all this free martial arts goodness, we're also giving you a chance to win classic Shaw Brothers DVDs from our friends at Image Entertainment (good stuff, too), so there's no excuse for staying at home Friday night. Don't miss this incredible night of free face-kicking fun and excitement and support more free martial arts shows at the Alamo!
