Starting in 2018, the festival has been rebranded the DocuWest Film and Music Festival. Meaning that in addition to being Colorado’s only festival dedicated to documentary film, we are now Colorado’s only festival presenting a three night music showcase of local musicians as a major part of the festivities.

In addition to adding music, DocuWest is producing two sidebar events that will magnify the role of nonfiction storytelling. The first sidebar is called, “On the Page.” Over the course of two days, the folks from the Denver Public Library have arranged for the fest to present book readings, signings, and presentations from a large handful of Colorado’s favorite nonfiction authors. The second sidebar is “Micro-Docs”, a program where a person, or a team can submit a micro-doc of not more than five minutes, about almost anything they can cover. Be it a conversation with the mailman, to a discussion with a musician, we want the community to create micro-docs about our city, state, or region.

As we enter our 10th year, we have expanded our mission to explore and celebrate our world through not only the lens of documentary films, but also from the perspective of musicians, authors and citizens. Expanding our cause to curate and present audiences nonfiction stories across genres that are entertaining, inspiring, astonishing – and jarring. So we can spark dialogue about subjects expressed by those from diverse disciplines, and from various walks of life. To acknowledge, and toast all the creators who document stories, songs, and images from the world around them.
