Here at the Alamo Drafthouse we see it as part of our mission to provide our viewers a first-class film education. Which means not only the sort of movie classics that are seen and discussed in our nation's finer film schools but also movies that have never been seen in any educational context at all.
These movies may be depraved and disreputable in many cases but they represent an important period, now long gone, in both movie and social history.
Since 2001, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema has been hosting a series of exploitation classics, especially curated by our own film guru Lars Nilsen: from cheerleaders gone bad to blaxploitation to killer mutant animals to cheesy 80's slashers to women in prison. Many of these films are so obscure that little is known or has been written about them. Some of them are bad, all of them are enjoyable, and a rare few are mind-blowingly amazing. Weird Wednesdays is the vanguard of cinema exploration in Austin. Join us every Wednesday!
Weird Wednesdays are hosted by Lars. Every week he will introduce the movie with a little history and insight. He may also make you laugh - or mortally offend you. No refunds will be given to the thin-skinned or humorless.
