Russellmania was a blissful day at the Alamo Drafthouse. We got to celebrate many things Kurt Russell, from features to trailers, and no trailer seemed to resonate with people quite like USED CARS.
This early collaboration between writer Bob Gale and writer/director Robert Zemeckis (who went on to make the BACK TO THE FUTURE movies together) features one of the truly great and defining performances from perfect human, Kurt Russell.
We had a SOPHIE'S CHOICE in selecting that Kurt Russell marathon line up, but who's to say Sophie wouldn't have cheated and chosen them both if she could have. And so our Kurt Russell love will prosper as we see him as the slimy, lying, roguish and impeccably dressed salesman on a used car lot.
There, he has to hide the fact that his boss (the incredible Jack Warden) has died from the evil and conniving brother of his boss (also Jack Warden in an amazing double performance) who is trying to steal the lot for himself.
Overloaded with true comedic power and fantastically risky one-take stunts and set pieces, USED CARS is a wild tribute to the qualities that define America: corruption, deceit and dishonesty.
It’s also the only R-rated movie from the family-friendly Zemeckis, so don’t miss out on Kurt Russell doing lots of choice swears. USED CARS will annihilate you. (Tommy Swenson & Greg MacLennan)
