THE LAST STARFIGHTER
|Starring||Lance Guest, Dan O'Herlihy, Catherine Mary Stewart|
18 and up; Children 6 and up will be allowed only with a parent guardian. No children under the age of 6 will be allowed.
The 1980's were a time when video games mattered.
Your parents would drop you at the mall and the arcade would be your babysitter. But if you lost too quickly you'd burn through your allowance, suffer unbearable humiliation at the hands of your friends, and spend the rest of the afternoon forlornly moping around the Orange Julius until your big sister could come pick you up.
Winning at video games wasn't just a matter of pride, it was a matter of childhood SURVIVAL. And no movie understands that raw fact on a more literal level than THE LAST STARFIGHTER.
It's the story of lonely trailer park kid, Alex Rogan, who breaks the high-score record on the Last Starfighter arcade machine only to be scooped up by the game's extra-terrestrial creator who reveals that the world Alex was escaping to in the game is actually real.
Now it's up to Alex to save this world with the help of a gloriously realized practical-effect lizard man and a robot clone of himself. It's also a pioneer of early CGI before computer effects ate the real world alive and it succeeds at the now impossible feat of capturing a magical blend of Spielbergian wonder and the galactic whams of George Lucas's OG trilogy.
Nothing today can hold a joystick to the pure fun and adventure of this star-blasting triumph. For Rylos! (Greg MacLennan and Tommy Swenson)
