Following the rabid/confused reaction to last year’s DEMONS screening, it seems only right to reignite the fires of Hell, Italy with a screening of the equally vicious sequel. Always a bold innovator, director Bava takes his second entry into uncharted territory, exchanging an apartment building for the first film’s movie theater setting...and besides that it’s kinda pretty much the same. A hyperspeed demonplague spreads through an upper class highrise, laying waste to the overpaid Caucasian occupants in a frenzied hurricane of cannibalism, acidic spewed bile and supernaturally spawned homicidal wrath. If anyone can figure out how we could get something like this started in downtown Austin, you’d sure be doing our city a tremendous service. (Zack)
