This movie is for people who enjoy things that are good. THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN is part pseudo-documentary, part slasher, and all awesome. It reinterprets the story of "The Texarkana Phantom," an iconic and terrifying killer who plagued the small town of Texarkana in the 1940s. The Phantom breaks down doors with his arms. He wears a canvas sack over his head, way before Jason Vorhees did it in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2. The Phantom also stabs people with a knife that's attached to a trombone. Director Charles Pierce (THE LEGEND OF BOGGY CREEK) complements these charms with moonlit atmosphere, documentary-styled photography, and tons of small town paranoia. He even throws in Dawn Wells aka Mary Ann from "Gillligan's Island" as a tree-hugging victim! What this all means is that TOWN is a sleazy, unsung classic that will scare your pants off. Plus, The Phantom was never caught. In other words: ATTEND THIS SCREENING AT YOUR OWN RISK. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
