It’s difficult, but wonderful, to remember the time when Gary Busey was best known as the Academy Award-nominated actor who portrayed Buddy Holly in Steve Rash’s 1978 biopic. Today, Busey is better known as a blustery, unpredictable fellow who in his day-to-day life resembles his character ‘Dell’ in D.C. CAB (1983), as if he never dropped the wild energy and persona. Despite an acting career that would later include PIRANHA 3DD, Busey virtually disappears into the role of Buddy Holly in this film and injects life back into the music that the world thought they would never hear again following the tragic plane crash that ended the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and “The Big Bopper.” Presented in a brand new 35mm print courtesy of Sony Pictures Repertory, the Drafthouse is proud to present this very special engagement of THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY!
