I know, I know. We were all highly skeptical upon learning that a new reboot of Spider-Man was in the works just a few short years after Sam Raimi's trilogy. But once we started to learn the details, our excitement grew. It's directed by Marc Webb, whose (500) DAYS OF SUMMER was nothing short of charming. It's written by Alvin Sargent, who penned the original trilogy and Steve Kloves, who wrote all of the HARRY POTTER films. And it stars perennially likable cuties Andrew Garfield (THE SOCIAL NETWORK, NEVER LET ME GO, the RED RIDING trilogy) and Emma Stone (EASY A, ZOMBIELAND, SUPERBAD) as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. Not to mention Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Uncle Ben and Aunt May, and Rhys Ifans as elusive Spidey villain The Lizard!
So I'll admit it - somewhere along the way, my skepticism turned into full-blown enthusiasm. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN is on my must-see list this summer. How about yours? (Meredith Borders)
