Imagine SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE with an Indian twist. That's not too far away from director Ritesh Batra's endearing comedy-drama THE LUNCHBOX, a story of two lonely strangers in Mumbai who find each other through a simple twist of fate.

Ila (Nimrat Kaur) is a housewife whose daily chores include sending a lunchbox across the city to her husband, via Mumbai's celebrated lunchbox delivery system of dabbawalas.

One day, the lunchbox ends up not on her husband's desk, but in front of Saajan (Irrfan Khan), an introspective widower who is soon to be facing retirement. He's surprised by the mystery meal, but eats it anyhow. The mix-up continues to happen day after day, and Ila begins to realize their her husband is not eating her food. So who is?

Through notes passed inside the lunchbox, Ila and Saajan begin to share their stories and insights, establishing an unusual friendship. Both dream of breaking out of their ruts and starting new lives somewhere else, but can they take the next step? (James Sanford)
