Scream & Shout: the Chart-Topping Sing-Along
|Director||The Action Pack|
|Starring||Taylor Swift, Macklemore, Calvin Harris, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Daft Punk|
SCREAM & SHOUT: THE CHART-TOPPING SING-ALONG is the newest party from the Action Pack that’s set to transform your local Alamo Drafthouse from the best movie theater in town to the best dance club you’ve ever been to. As always, we’ll have subtitled music videos and props galore to get you out of your seat and dancing around the theater, and this time we’ll be celebrating all of the best new pop music from the likes of Macklemore, Taylor Swift, P!nk, Justin Timberlake, and more.
Because remember 10-20 years ago, when being a cool kid meant knowing about music that other people weren’t hip enough to understand? Those were the days of record stores, and record store clerks, and HIGH FIDELITY, and discovering Karate or Death Cab for Cutie before everyone else knew about them made you super awesome.
Well guess what? Those days are over.
Thanks to Pitchfork and Spotify and Rdio and every other blog out there, every single person on the planet knows about all the cool music from some hot new band in Brooklyn at the exact same time, and just saying that you like Alpine because you heard them on Left As Rain doesn’t make you a badass.
Today, we live in a post-hipster music world, as Taylor Swift is fully aware of. When she drops in the seemingly self-deprecating “Who is Taylor Swift anyway?” line into the background of “22,” she’s actually saying, “Oh, you think you’re too cool for me, ‘hipster’? Guess what, no one is too cool for pop music anymore.”
And she’s right. Today if you want to be super cool, you have to love pop music AND early Paul Williams, as Daft Punk demonstrated when they released the coolest album of 2013 (so far). Pretending like you’re too cool for “Get Lucky” just makes you sound like a grandpa, and saying that you can’t get into Macklemore because he’s too white to rap just makes you a lame racist who hates fun.
The point being: the extremely awesome pop music of today that we’re celebrating in SCREAM & SHOUT: THE CHART-TOPPING SING-ALONG is not a guilty pleasure. It’s a super cool pleasure, and you don’t have to feel guilty about being awesome anymore! Anyone who tells you differently is just a grump, and you should probably drag them along with you to the show so that they can learn the error of their ways as we sing and dance along with Calvin Harris, Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, Will.i.am and Britney, bitch, and all of the other chart toppers of 2013.
