In the fictional, modern-day Southern California city of "Verona Beach," the Capulets and the Montagues are arch-rivals.

You know the story; you've read the play. Hope & Despair. Tragedy & Love. Romeo & Juliet... but you've never seen it through the acid laced lens of a mad Australian.

Baz Luhrmann is too much for some, but like it or not, he is undeniably a master at what he does. Here, he takes his visual panache and love of juxtaposing different time periods and musicalities to create an adrenaline-soaked thrill ride through Shakespeare's 400 year-old play.

Lurhmann himself has been quoted as saying "What I wanted to do was to look at the way in which Shakespeare might make a movie of one of his plays if he was a director. He was a relentless entertainer and a user of incredible devices and theatrical tricks to ultimately create something of meaning and convey a story. That was what we wanted to do."

And Luhrmann does just that. He reaches deep into his bag of tricks to give us crazy zooms, decadent cinematography, and a dizzying ballet of bullets and romance in this dripping with '90s-ness update of ROMEO + JULIET.

You've got young Danes, baby faced Leo, an incredible John Leguizamo, the late great Pete Postlewaite and a truly memorable Harold Perrinneau...not to mention Paul Rudd looking...well almost exactly the same in this swank-trash music video set to one of the most indelible movie soundtracks of the '90s...because everyone remembers that god damned "Loverfool" video.
