ROCKY III: co-hosted by Collider
Alamo Drafthouse is recreating the “Summer of 1982” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the greatest summer of movies… ever! From May through July, the theater will replicate 1982’s earth-shaking release schedule, screening eight of the biggest genre classics on the same weekends they were released exactly 30 years ago.
In the first film, Rocky Balboa blew it. In the second, he conquered. But in the third, he was permanently transformed into an immortal icon of the ring and the universal human experience as a whole. Join everyone’s favorite diminutive mush-mouthed pugilist for one of his top trademarked fall-n’-rise triumphs, as he goes toe to toe with the most unstoppable force in the boxing world: Clubber Lang (played with truly intimidating rage by Mr. T)! On hand for the buffet of physical and emotional brutality are all of Rocky’s diehard pals, including Carl “Apollo” Weathers, Talia “Adrian” Shire, Burgess “Mickey” Meredith and the great Burt Young as Paulie! If you miss this show, we’ll beat you like a frozen side of beef. (Zack Carlson)
“As a kid, I couldn't really relate to or even understand the working class struggles depicted in Rocky and Rocky II. But when "Eye of the Tiger" came booming over the opening sequence of ROCKY III, I knew the series had expanded to include me. ROCKY III leaves behind Rocky's hard-scabble life in favor of squaring off against cartoonish characters played by Hulk Hogan and Mr. T, but the movie never lost the core values of the first two films: honesty, modesty, and hard-work. The battle is still the David vs. Goliath story we can all relate to, and for a kid that ran into his fair share of bullies, I always took comfort in Rocky Balboa being stronger than his opponents not because of his size, but because of his character. “ (Matt Goldberg, COLLIDER)
