Though a wide dramatic range was always part of Robin Williams' skill set it was the year 2002 that was dubbed "the dark period" for the actor as he tackled three roles together that were either darkly comic or had no comedy at all (DEATH TO SMOOCHY and INSOMNIA among them) but it was in turn in ONE HOUR PHOTO that really presented his gft for finding the heart and soul of a character, even if laughs are not part of its DNA.
Director Mark Romanek made his feature directorial debut this dark tale of Seymour (Williams), a lonely one hour photo technician who develops an unhealthy obsession with a family who constantly drops off their photos, allowing him a secret portal into their life with far more happiness than his. Something that he sees in a new batch of photos from the clan sets forward a startling turn of events which dives deeper into Seymour's already deteriorating mental state.
