In college, I listened to the JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS soundtrack so much, I forgot they weren’t a real band. And yes, I do know all of the words to Du Jour’s “Backdoor Lover.” (Comin’ from behind with the lights down low!)

In my opinion, this sassy gem of a film is insanely underrated, and I’m not just saying that because I’ve been brainwashed by Mega Records. (Gatorade is the new Snapple!) The script pops with humor, the songs actually rock, and the roster of actors is almost too good be true. Rachael Leigh Cook is adorable as Josie, but it’s Alan Cumming and Parker Posey who steal the show as unhinged record producers Wyatt and Fiona.

I would die to crash their slumber party, but instead, I’ll settle for celebrating my favorite fictional band at this special Girlie Night edition of Music Monday, where you are definitely encouraged to sing along. (Don’t pretend like you haven’t memorized all of the lyrics.) Grab your best pair of cat ears, slip on your Du Jour t-shirt and prepare for a totally jerkin’ night. (Sarah Pitre)
