Alamo Slaughter officially opens on 3/8. This show is part of our Slaughter opening training exercises.
"It is a lighter von Trier, a lovely von Trier, a seriously romantic von Trier that emerges from MELANCHOLIA, and I quite hope he stays around. - Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times
"A potent beauty of a film, and Kirsten Dunst gives an incomparable performance." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"A remarkable mood piece with visuals to die for (excuse the pun), and a performance from Dunst that runs the color spectrum of emotions." - Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer
Before each screening of MELANCHOLIA at the Alamo Drafthouse we are going to be showing an interview that Devin Faraci of Badass Digest did with Lars von Trier himself!
Chaos continues to reign as we bring Lars von Trier's new film to town, MELANCHOLIA. This time dead foxes are out and the end-of-the-world is in. MELANCHOLIA takes places in a mansion. It's the night of Justine's (Kirsten Dunst) wedding and we find out something is very wrong with her. Sadness surrounds her heart and there's nothing anyone can do to cure it. An even bigger tragedy is also on the horizon: there's a planet ten times the size of Earth that's been hiding behind the sun called "Melancholia," and it's headed straight towards us. In von Trier's previous work, he wants us to feel pain. In MELANCHOLIA, we're supposed to understand it. (Chase Whale)
