Given that Jane Austen is the patron saint of the Afternoon Tea series, it’s our duty to screen as many of the film versions of her books as possible. And it’s a duty we take very, very seriously.
In May, we’re tackling her most controversial novel, MANSFIELD PARK, with this 1999 adaptation starring Frances O’Connor as Fanny Price and Jonny Lee Miller as the dashing Edmund Bertram. Although this film is based on the novel, director Patricia Rozema takes the story in a new (and ultimately satisfying) direction in order to incorporate elements from Austen’s own life. In spite of the plot variations, you can still expect the standard and much beloved Austen ingredients: a strong heroine, a tingly romance and plenty of social commentary, all wrapped up in a delightfully witty package.
Enjoy unwrapping this cinematic gift while savoring three servings of tea and a plate of delicious treats, all included in your ticket. It’s an afternoon of entertainment that will make everyone, from the poorest Price to the richest Bertram, feel incredibly classy. (Sarah Pitre)
