“I'm a cop, you idiot! I'm detective John Kimble!”
John Kimble (AHNULD SCHWARZENEGGER) is a hard-as-nails, grizzled cop who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He will trash your place and kill your friends in pursuit of the law. Kimble’s greatest adversary is notorious drug dealer Cullen Crisp, who leads him to the small town of Astoria, Oregon to find Crisp’s ex-wife before Crisp does. The only problem is he doesn’t know her and her young son’s new identities and must pose as a kindergarten teacher until he finds them. Kimble is one of the deadliest men to walk this earth, but no training could have prepared him for kindergarten!
From raging violence to hilarious comedy, KINDERGARTEN COP is, according to Roger Ebert, “made up out of parts that shouldn't fit, but somehow they do, making a slick entertainment out of the improbable, the impossible, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.” This is the movie that brought out the “Hasta La Vista” softer side of Schwarzenegger, but don’t let that fool you; KINDERGARTEN COP is a raging beast of pure muscle-pumping, skull-bashing awesomeness with a mushy heart.
What so many action heroes have failed to do with these kinds of movies is throw their established presence into them with aplomb, but Schwarzenegger marches right into that classroom with a TERMINATOR mentality, and to watch five year olds tear down that image is what makes this movie great. Ivan Reitman directs what had to have been the craziest idea ever when someone pitched a violent action movie for kids. But somehow this film got made, and the world is a better place for living in the oft-quoted, insanely enjoyable, ferret-petting world of KINDERGARTEN COP. (Greg MacLennan)
“You're not going to have your mommies here to wipe your tushies. Oh no, it’s time to turn this mush...into muscle!”
