From acclaimed director William Friedkin (THE EXORCIST) comes this Texas-sized dose of drugs, murder, perversity, and white trash. Based off of the award-winning play by Tracey Letts, the story begins when Chris, a local drug dealer, is in debt with the wrong people. He doesn’t have the money to pay them and now they’re threatening his life. Chris can only think of one way to get the money: kill his mother and collect her life insurance. Enter Joe Cooper, a killer-for-hire who Chris seeks out to do the dirty job.
Chris thinks all his problems are over, but he soon finds out murder ain’t always clean and simple, especially in the trailer parks of Texas. Starring Emile Hirsch (MILK), Thomas Haden Church (SIDEWAYS), Juno Temple (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES), and Matthew McConaughey at his absolute best, KILLER JOE's mix of dark comedy and violence is sure to make it one of the most interesting, provocative, and talked about films of the year.
"Never has noir been more diabolically naughty...There are moments of brilliance, saturated with the blackest irony, as the underbelly of an existence on the edges is exposed." -Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times
"As splashy as Killer Joe is, it’s also, beat by beat, meticulously orchestrated, with no shortcuts to the carnage. When it comes to mapping psychoses, Letts and Friedkin are diabolically single-minded cartographers." -David Edelstein, New York Magazine
"William Friedkin's Killer Joe is one hell of a movie. It left me speechless...It is expertly directed, flawlessly cast and written with merciless black humor by Tracy Letts." -Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
