Forget about candy. When it comes to Halloween gorging, I'm all about HOCUS POCUS. (Well, and cocktails. Always cocktails.)

Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, this movie is basically the cinematic equivalent of trick or treating. You know, the thrill of putting on your costume, the rush of wondering which house would be giving out whole candy bars, the joyful satisfaction of arriving home with a stuffed bag. HOCUS POCUS fills you with those feelings of mischief and excitement and leaves you tingling with the sense that magic might actually exist. Also? It's just straight up FUN.

There have never been more fabulous witches than Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, which makes it hard to remember that they're the villains. Especially when Midler sings, because she really can put a spell on you. But angsty teenager Max (Omri Katz) and adorable little Dani (Thora Birch) are worthy heroes, and how could you not root for a talking cat named Thackery Binx? Mix all of these elements together, and you've got a potion for a Halloween classic.

Grab your broom (or vacuum) and fly on over to Girlie Night, where you'll be encouraged to run amok... amok amok amok amok! (Sarah Pitre)
