Nothing can stop Michael Myers. Not even falling down a well. In HALLOWEEN 4: THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MYERS, Michael Myers terrorized his niece, Danielle Harris, and her step-sister. He also blew up a gas station, climbed around on a roof, and rode on the hood of a truck. The only problem was that Michael Myers's stuffed overalls made him look like a constipated plumber who was wearing a neck brace. When he fell down a well at the end of the movie, it was a mercy killing. In HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS, Michael is back. AND HE IS FILLED WITH RAGE!!! HALLOWEEN 5 harkens back to HALLOWEEN II in that Michael is once again a ferocious, inhuman killing machine who is not afraid to pick people up and break them in half. Picking up one year after the events of HALLOWEEN 4, Michael continues his hunt for Danielle Harris while Donald Pleasance says things like, "I prayed that he would burn in hell. But I knew that hell would not have him!" But HALLOWEEN 5 isn't just another sequel -- it's a surprisingly consistent last gasp for legit American slashers. The photography is beautiful, the performances (particularly Harris and Pleasance) are completely unhinged, and the tone is chock-full of darkness, suspense, and Halloween mood. And that's despite the comic relief cops who are accompanied by bicycle horns on the soundtrack. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
