From the classics to unknown gems, every month the Alamo Drafthouse will pick out a favorite from the vault for your enjoyment. The Graveyard Shift isn’t just a simple screening, though — it’s an event. Once a month we’ll bring you games, giveaways and surprises of all shapes and sizes. If you’re a horror fan living in Houston, the third Saturday of the month is reserved for The Graveyard Shift.

This month: Special Double Feature Edition - An American Werewolf in London/Fright Night

You may have noticed that this month's Graveyard Shift doesn't fall on the third Saturday of the month. That's because we have something truly special lined up for Houston's horror fans - and on the night of a full moon too! This August, we're paying tribute to two of the greatest horror-comedies to ever emerge from the murky depths of '80s horror.

An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, An American Werewolf in London is flat-out the greatest werewolf movie ever made. Period. David Naughton stars as David, a young man whose trip to England ends with him sprouting fur and fangs and rampaging through Piccadilly Circus. From its amazing transformation scene by Rick Baker (a scene that has yet to be topped by any film that has come since) to its beloved character-based comedy, John Landis' film perfectly balances humor and horror to create a film that will have you laughing one moment and screaming the next. There is a reason why An American Werewolf in London is considered one of the premiere horror films of the '80s. Don't miss this special chance to see this film on the big screen for a special 30th anniversary screening.

Fright Night (1985)
Sure, Colin Farrell may be donning pointy fangs and a wife beater for a 3D remake of the classic Tom Holland film but let's not forget it was Chris Sarandon that came first. Before you check out the new film, take a trip back to the '80s with a special screening of the original Fright Night - in all its J. Geils Band theme song-sporting goodness. William Ragsdale stars as Charley Brewster, a young man who suspects his next door neighbor (Sarandon) is a vampire. Fright Night also features a performance by Stephen Geoffreys, one of the greatest young character actors of the '80s whose career sadly never reached the heights it deserved. "Oh, you're so cool, Brewster!"
