10 years ago, Andrew Bujalski made an excellent, very inexpensive film in a style that adapted John Cassavetes’ techniques and took advantage of its own technical limitations. The critical praise was enormous and the influence was wide. Before long it was a movement - mumblecore. Like most artistic movements, it encompasses many fine works and provides impervious cover for many bad ones. But the one that started it all deserves to be appreciated on its own considerable merits without having to drag mumblecore around with it like some horrendous tail. We are honored to welcome the writer, director and star of FUNNY HA HA, Andrew Bujalski back to the Alamo to present his film and reflect on his own memories of making the film as it exists today, both as a freestanding work and as an influence on the work that followed.
