THE SATANO-SUPERNATURAL BLASTERPIECE THAT SPAWNED THE EVIL DEAD SERIES!! God may have more money, but Satan knows how to party. The shamefully underseen EQUINOX proves that forcefields, towering neon-blue behemoths, transdimensional castles, misshapen cavemen, tendriled beasts and sinister forest rangers are Lucifer’s sharpest tools in his 24-7 war against mankind. Four picnicking students stumble across a malevolent occult tome that tears a rift into the demon world, unleashing impossible creatures as our hapless protagonists bumble towards a vicious confrontation with the Prince of Darkness himself! This rampagingly innovative feature was clearly the inspiration for EVIL DEAD and - as far as I’m concerned - CITIZEN KANE and every movie ever made, before it or since. No other low-budget horror movie has even attempted the brazen onslaught of hell-fueled nightmare fantasies that you’ll see here, much of which is stop motion wizardry provided by the future Oscar-winning effects artist of STAR WARS. If he’d instead stuck with movies this good, maybe he could sleep at night. (Zack)
