Featuring CENTER STAGE, STRICTLY BALLROOM and STEP UP 2: THE STREETS!!
The marathon will also feature live dance performances corresponding to and preceding each film by Austin's own Go Dance Studio!
I’m constantly shocked by the number of people who fail to understand the power of dance in film. Dance changes lives! Dance brings people together! Dance transforms ugly ducklings into graceful (and occasionally scary) swans! With just one montage to a catchy pop song, dance can end centuries of hate, solve world problems and maybe, just maybe, help two people fall in love. It’s high time we gave the dance movie genre the appreciation it deserves, which is why we’re screening not one but three of the greatest dance flicks of all time. We’ll start with the balletastic CENTER STAGE, which proves that you don’t need good actors to make an enjoyable movie-- just great dancers. Next, we’ll trade in our plié for the pasodoble with Baz Luhrmann’s STRICTLY BALLROOM and cheer on Scott and Fran as they fight for love and victory in the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix Dancing Championship. Our evening will end with plenty of booty-shakin’ and battling in STEP UP 2: THE STREETS, a film that combines underdogs, friendship and a little rain to create the best dance finale in cinematic history. Come prepared to laugh, swoon and bust a move in your seat as the power of dance turns your Sunday afternoon into the best day ever. (Sarah Pitre)
