THE VIOLENT YEARS
This show is part of the the Cinema Club: THE VIOLENT YEARS and THE SADIST Double Feature! Tickets for the double feature are only available by clicking the purchase link on this page.
At every installment of Cinema Club we welcome a guest expert for a very special program of screening and discussion. Over the years our experts have included writers, academics and filmmakers of all sorts but we've never welcomed a guest quite like Johnny Legend. He is the first - and will probably remain the only - Cinema Club guest who is a wrestling manager and member of the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame. In addition to all his other talents, Legend is one of the world's most respected authorities on drive-in and exploitation movies. Through his work with Rhino Video and Legendhouse, he has exposed the world to the joys of the films he lovingly calls "sleaze" and "trash". We're so excited to welcome Johnny, who brings with him two astonishingly rare 35mm film prints, The Edward D. Wood Jr.- written girl gang movie THE VIOLENT YEARS (1956), which postulates that juvenile delinquency is a communist plot. The second half of our drive-in double feature is the hard-bitten psychological horror film THE SADIST (1963), starring would-be teen idol Arch Hall Jr. as a psychotic young man who terrorizes an unlucky trio with car trouble. It's a tour-de-force of acting and direction that we consider thoroughly unmissable. As always, after each screening we'll open the discussion to all. Expect the well-traveled Mr. Legend to come prepared with some pretty hair-raising stories. Also, don't miss Johnny Legend performing at the Continental Club on March 31! (Lars)
