Paul Schrader’s CAT PEOPLE is a sticky, neon thriller that stars Nastassja Kinski as Irena, innocent enough until her sexuality is unleashed and she transforms into a ravenous black panther. Hovered over by her brother Paul (Malcolm McDowell), she discovers that they are descended from cat people, and according to him, must only mate with each other. Zoologist Oliver (the always great John Heard) becomes fascinated with her, but she tries to keep her distance since she knows that she is capable of tearing him to shreds. From the not-so ridiculous to the mighty sublime, CAT PEOPLE is an erotic fantasy that will burn through you. It also has a killer score by Giorgio Moroder, wrapping up with the David Bowie title track “Putting Out the Fire” (yes, the one that Quentin Tarantino used in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS). (Cristina Cacioppo)

Also be sure to check out THE CANYONS, Paul Schrader's newest movie, screening at the Alamo Ritz on Fri, 8/9 (with Schrader in person) and 8/10.
