If you stop any woman on the street and ask if she's seen the BBC version of PRIDE & PREJUDICE, chances are extremely high that she'll not only say yes, but also tell you the exact number of times she's watched it, followed by a sigh of, "Mr Darcy!" It's pretty much a universal feminine dream to live the life of a Jane Austen heroine, which is why AUSTENLAND is such a highly anticipated release, especially for our crowd of Girlie Night regulars.
Jane Haynes (the luminous Keri Russell) has spent her life obsessed with the works of Jane Austen, but she truly takes a plunge into the deep end when she books a trip to Austenland, an English resort that offers the ultimate escape into the world of fancy balls, refined ettiquette and dashing gentlemen. But it only takes a few minutes in a corset for Jane to realize that her literary dreams lose something in the translation to reality. Charmed by a lowly servant (Bret McKenzie) and intrigued by the furrowed brow of Mr. Henry Nobley (JJ Feild), Jane finds herself stuck in a classic Austen scenario, but she won't get her happy ending unless she makes a few modern updates.
Based on the novel by Shannon Hale (who also co-wrote the script with Jerusha Hess), AUSTENLAND features a delightfully comical cast, including Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour and James Callis, and a story that will leave you with a wonderful case of the swoons. (Sarah Pitre)
