Where does a franchise go after delivering one of the greatest rampagers in the history of horror sequels? We're not sure. But it has something to do with nunchucks, Freddy Krueger in drag, and a demonic dog named "Jason" who pisses a stream of fire onto a pile of dirt. Hooray! THE DREAM MASTER captures Freddy's transformation from a vile child-rapist to a cuddly stand-up comic. Some people have a problem with that, but we don't. This movie is a volcanic fun-bomb of pink and green neon, ridiculous dialogue, and jaw-dropping special effects. It feels like psychedelic wildman José Mojica Marins aka Coffin Joe commandeered the MTV Studios for twenty-four hours. But instead of following his own descent into madness, he made a Freddy movie. Throw out the shitty script, nonsensical structure, and "hip" dialogue that feels like it was written by a 68-year-old. Embrace the Freddy shark, Freddy kung-fu, and FREDDY PIZZA!! While you're at it, try to process the fact that there was a time in America when a movie this bizarre could dictate box office trends. (Joseph A. Ziemba)
