Invincible Czars present: Fritz Lang’s Destiny with a live original score
Sunday September 20th 7:30pm $10 It’s been 2 years since Austin’s The Invincible Czars presented their last silent film with an original score at Alamo Lake Creek and it’s high time they brought another show our way. Join us on Sunday September 20th for a screening of the 1921 Fritz Lang silent Destiny with an original score to accompany the film. For more info on the Invincible Czars, go to Visit www.invincibleczars.com. About the show: The Invincible Czars present "Destiny", Fritz Lang's incomparable visuals provide the inspiration for the Invincible Czars' most successful film score project yet - a truly collaborative effort that features the arranging talents of every member of the band. The bands original score touches on themes that have always existed in their music, and takes the Czars into new directions as well as much of the familiar neo-classical-meets-weirdo-rock territory they've become known to explore. Performed last spring before a capacity crowd at Houston's Discovery Green, this showing is the exclusive Austin performance. About Destiny: Fritz Lang was a stickler for realism in his American films; not so his German silents, which were fanciful to the point of being fairy tales. Der Müde Tod, Lang's first big critical success, is an allegorical tale of love, fidelity and death. The heroine (Lil Dagover), who in her dreams is confronted by Mr. Death, argues for the life of her beloved, but is unable to make the personal sacrifices that Death insists upon. Originally presented in three parts, Der Müde Tod was often boiled down to a single film for its non-German showings. Its English-language titles range from The Weary Death to Between Two Worlds to Beyond the Wall to Destiny. |
