CATFISH

Ever since our fearless leader Tim League saw this movie at Sundance, we've been chomping at the bit to discover the "secret of CATFISH" (don't let anyone tell you what it is).

In this "reality thriller", filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost document the budding relationship of Ariel's brother Nev and prodigious 8 year old painter Abby Pierce. Over the course of 8 months Nev corresponds long distance with Abby, her mother, and Abby's sister Megan via the phone and social networking sites. Over time, Nev's relationship with Megan takes a turn for the romantic, and soon he realizes that the family may not be exactly as they seem.

Hollywood.com calls CATFISH "A fascinating journey through the twisted, tangled web that Facebook weaves", while Ella Taylor of NPR described the movie as "Engrossing" after attending a screening during Sundance Film Festival.  As I mentioned before, Alamo Drafthouse Founder Tim League has been championing this movie personally and had this to say about the film:

"I VERY rarely pound out a heartfelt recommendation for a film, maybe 3-4 times a year max. I'm doing it now. This is a fascinating little film, you have never seen anything like it and I'm pretty sure it might just blow your mind. If I were running the Oscars, this would be a sure-fire bet to be in the running for best documentary of the year."

I don't know about you guys, but that's recommendation enough for me.
