2012 is going to be an amazing year for beer lovers at the Alamo Drafthouse. Believe. We’re bringing some of the best craft breweries in from across this great freedom-/alcohol-loving land of ours to showcase their portfolios along with the best possible food and film pairings. This February we are working with the folks from Great Divide Brewing Company on a 5-course gourmet meal crafted by Alamo Executive Chef John Bullington that is sure to get you in gear. While we very much frown on drinking and driving, we fully support drinking while watching a movie about driving. This special beer event happens in Austin at the Village on Feb 21st, and in San Antonio at Park North on Feb 22nd. Tickets are on sale NOW. Read on for the full mouth-watering details:
Before CANNONBALL RUN, SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, or FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT, there was VANISHING POINT, the high performance car film that left generations wanting to buy a white 1970 Dodge Challenger. Great Divide just so happens to be based in Denver, Colorado, where this ultimate car chase movie begins. (Hey, isn’t there going to be an Alamo Drafthouse location opening there later this year?!) Our anti-protagonist and his car have 15 hours to get from point A to point B, and along they way they encounter naked hippies, racist cops, and a weirdo snake-loving religious revival in the middle of the desert. All this plus Cleavon Little as the mystical radio disc jockey named “Super Soul” make for a must see!
Great Divide has been in the craft beer game since 1994 and has in its illustrous history created some of the most complex, delicious and STRONG beers available. Real talk: most of their collection is near or above 7% ABV! They’ve won countless/impressive awards for their wide array of assertive and flavorful beers, including accolades from Beer Advocate Magazine, which dubbed them one of the top 10 breweries on the planet!
We’re pairing all of our favorite beers from Great Divide’s portfolio with gourmet, full-throttle foods -- it all adds up to pure entertainment for all of your senses! Behold, the menu:
Fried artichokes and fennel on seasonal greens with ginger-yogurt. Paired with Great Divide's Nomad Bohemian Pilsner
Salt-Seared Scallop in green chile cucumber broth. Paired with Great Divide's Titan IPA
Bigos – traditional Polish stew of kielbasa, cabbage, and onions. Paired with Great Divide's Hoss Rye Lager
Ale-braised beef short rib and great northern beans with roast asparagus. Paired with Great Divide's Claymore Scotch Ale
Madagascar Cream-filled cinnamon puffs and hazelnut brittle. Paired with Great Divide's Espresso Oak Aged Yeti
Yum Yum! The Princess Bride Quote-Along and Feast isn’t the only food & film event to check out this month at the Alamo! Stay tuned for all sorts of other great brewery events coming down the chute in 2012!
