Starting this Friday, July 6th, Woody Allen’s follow-up to the Academy Award-winning MIDNIGHT IN PARIS debuts at our Slaughter Lane and our brand new Kansas City – Mission Street locations. TO ROME WITH LOVE is Allen’s episodic love letter to the Italian cityscape and the many adventures that lie within for longtime residents and those visiting for a short time, articulating the bond that manifests between people and a place.
After many valentines to his home of New York City (MANHATTAN, ANNIE HALL), TO ROME WITH LOVE follows in the more recent tradition of Allen’s well-traveled appreciation of European countries. A loose thematic trilogy that begins with VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA (2008), continues with MIDNIGHT IN PARIS (2011), and that completes itself with this latest picture, each film captures a signature romance with and about their subject cities that makes even those who have not visited fall deeply in love. This is the magic of Allen as consummate filmmaker – writer, director, and actor.
TO ROME WITH LOVE – a series of four short vignettes spanning decades -- reunites Allen with Penélope Cruz (from VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA) and offers him the opportunity to work with young, upcoming actors (namely Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, and Greta Gerwig). This onscreen and offscreen interplay between past and present best represents Allen’s continuing, pervasive influence on the landscape of American comedy.
TO ROME WITH LOVE stars Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, and Greta Gerwig and opens for a run at Slaughter Lane and KC - Mainstreet on Friday, July 6th. (Sam Prime)
