Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty, for tonight we watch 300!
Celebrate the fifth anniversary of 300, Zack Snyder’s epic adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel, with a free Rolling Roadshow screening of the film at Market Square Park.
Based on the 1998 comic book of the same name, 300 is a highly stylized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, a pivotal confrontation between an army of 300 Spartans and the Persian king Xerxes’ army of more than one million soldiers. Gerard Butler stars as King Leonidas, the leader of the Spartans and patron saint of sweaty bearded guys who like to walk around shirtless. Snyder, who would go on to direct WATCHMEN and next year’s THE MAN OF STEEL, mixes historical fact with a hefty helping of fantasy – creating a beautiful collage of dreams and legends.
You’ve watched the movie dozens of times and you’ve shouted “This is Sparta!” to your cat hundreds more but you’ve never seen 300 like this before.
The film will screen under the beautiful Houston night sky on Friday, March 23 at Market Square Park. The film starts at 8 PM and audiences are encouraged to bring a few blankets and a picnic in order to enjoy a great film under the night sky.
