This weekend at Ritz, we welcome a brand new 35mm print of THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY to our screen!
Directed by Steve Rash, Gary Busey stars as Buddy Holly in this lively musical biopic and virtually disappears into the role, bringing back to vivid life the young, talented sensation who regrettably passed away in a tragic plane crash in 1959. Nominated for an Academy Award for his performance, this is Busey as you've never seen him before -- turning in a controlled, articulate representation of one of the most-loved figures in modern music. Although most audiences know Busey as a totally zany character actor who often brings boundless energy to his roles, here we see a student of acting who is 100% committed to doing justice to the legendary figure rather than simply having fun with it. Busey is completely remarkable in this!
On February 3rd, 1959, known as "The Day The Music Died," Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper died in an aviation accident. THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY not only commemorates the life and times of Holly, but pays loving tribute to the music of a generation. When these men passed away, their music lived on -- and does so with this beautiful movie. Come relive the music with us in downtown at the Ritz!
