Spend Father’s Day at the Alamo Drafthouse with a special menu and incredible events

Our tastes and opinions are shaped by our parents – even if we don’t want to admit it. From the big choices we make in life like careers or education to the smaller choices – like favorite color tie or the way we bake our King Ranch Casserole, we are the product of our upbringing. It's only natural that, for at least some of us, our fathers helped develop our inner movie buff. This Father's Day, treat dad to something special with a trip to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

It all kicks off on Friday with our free Alamo Kids Camp screenings. This weekend, the title is SPEED RACER. If you grew up with fond memories of watching cheaply produced Japanese animation and eating giant bowls of cereal, you’re going to want to spend the weekend with your family at one of our free screenings of SPEED RACER, the criminally underrated film from the Wachowskis. Admission is free for this event but you can guarantee a spot in the theater by buying a $5 food and beverage voucher.

On Sunday, we have a true smorgasbord of incredible events for you to spend with your dad. At Vintage Park, we are screening THE GREAT ESCAPE at 12:30 PM. This classic Steve McQueen adventure film has been digitally restored in 4K and will look amazing on our top-of-the-line Sony projectors. Later that evening, also at Vintage Park, we’ll have a screening of THE PROFESSIONAL. While admittedly not the most obvious choice for a Father’s Day screening, Luc Besson’s stylish crime film is the perfect treat for the dad who likes action films, copious amounts of explosions and the incredible acting stylings of Gary Oldman. THE PROFESSIONAL is part of our Badass 101 series, co-presented by Badass Digest, and will screen in 35mm.

At Mason Park, we’re screening the film TRADING PLACES, a movie that has received the thumbs up from dads across the country for the last 30 years. You show me a father that doesn’t dig the comedy of an in-their-prime Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd and I’ll show you a father who will at least appreciate the lovely Jamie Lee Curtis.

Of course, there is always MAN OF STEEL. Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman legend stars Henry Cavill and Amy Adams and features enough outrageous action to etch a crater in your eyeballs.

Finally, you have the opportunity no matter what movie you’re seeing on Sunday, to enjoy our special Father’s Day menu. You don’t need to be a father either. Just ask your server on Sunday about our specials. As an added bonus, we’ve just tapped a keg of 120 Minute IPA from Dogfish Head Brewing at Vintage Park. Head over to the theater before it’s all gone.
