Spanish Wine & Tapas for The Skin I Live In

We're very excited for Pedro Almodóvar's newest film, so we prepared a Spanish menu to accompany it!

Spanish Wine & Tapas for The Skin I Live In

Pedro Almodóvar is an incredible filmmaker. He's made us laugh in films like Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, he's made us cry over intense family issues and death in films like All About My Mother (and many others), and now he's going to thrill us with The Skin I Live In. His newest film looks cinematically brilliant while making Antonio Banderas incredibly creepy. It played as a secret screening during this year's Fantastic Fest, and left the audience buzzing about it all evening. We wanted to celebrate the Spanish filmmaker, so in addition to showing a couple other of his films (Women on the Verge last week, Bad Education through this Thursday), we wanted to utilize all of our strong suits and asked Executive Chef John Bullington to create a menu of Spanish tapas and then asked Beverage Director Bill Norris to pick some awesome Spanish wines to pair them with. We were not disappointed!

This past Sunday, we invited a few of our press and food critic friends to try out some of our menu specials. This menu will only be available for the first two weeks of the film's run, so we wanted to make sure we got the word out on all angles so as many people could try them as possible. The event was delightful. The food was incredibly delicious, and the wine's complimented the dishes perfectly. This is absolutely one of our favorite special menus to date.

Virginia Wood of the Austin Chronicle recapped this weekend's event on her On The Range blog here. Michael Graupmann also wrote it up on Culture Map here. The basic consensus? You'll want to try each of these dishes (and at only $6 a piece, you won't feel guilty about doing so!). There are two white wines, a 100% organic cava and a crisp, citrusy white that will be $9/glass, $36/bottle, and a bold, hearty red for $10/glass, $40/bottle. Want to try them all? We're offering a $14 wine flight as well.
