We were very saddened to learn about our friend Lou Perryman's death yesterday. Lou was an actor and all-around film professional who lived here in Austin.
I met him last year at our WHOLE SHOOTIN' MATCH screenings with Sonny Carl Davis. He was one of the funniest guys I've ever met and a skillful hand with profanities. He was also a gentle soul, one of those loose-shoed, bad joke-telling beer-drinkers who just embodies Texas somehow. I remember thinking once after a conversation with Lou, "wow, he IS Texas." And he was.
Lou had the same effect on you in person he had on screen. He just made you feel better. Worries, troubles... Fuck it! No unhappiness could survive Lou's volcanic laugh. And that's what I'll miss.
I'm shocked and stunned and honestly I can't read it right now, but tomorrow I'm going to re-read the hilarious interview Sonny and Lou did for The Onion last year. Along with THE WHOLE SHOOTIN' MATCH, now on DVD, it will give you an idea of what the man was like who just rode off into the sunset.
