In September, we feature some of the most popular movies of all time, including JAWS, THE GRADUATE, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (new digital restoration), BACK TO THE FUTURE, and GREASE.  Our $3 ENCORE SERIES continues, and we have a free screening of a new Simon Pegg movie.  We will also have a great lineup of indie film with Film Club 3.0 (including the anticipated SNOWPIERCER) and participate in two festivals, including the Skyline Indie Film Fest and Virginia Independent Horror Film Festival.  Read on for all the details!


MONUMENTS MEN One Book, One Community presents the film directed by George Clooney.  Read the book and see the movie!  Tickets are available with a reception and door prizes including original art and Alamo gift certificates. Tickets on sale soon!  


HECTOR AND THE SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS  Tuesday, Sept 16.  The New York Film Critics Series brings us advance screenings on a regular basis.  That means you can see new movies before almost anyone else in the country.  Each screening is followed by an on-screen Q&A.  This month, The NYFCS presents the newest movie from Simon Pegg.  Free tickets will be offered to Victory members in the next few weeks.  Make sure to join our Victory rewards program for your chance to get exclusive free tickets to this special event.

Film Club 3.0 – Join Film Club for free and help bring independent, foreign, documentary and classic films to the Alamo Drafthouse.

SNOWPIERCER   Weds, September 3*.  The new film from Joon-ho Bong, the writer/director behind MOTHER and THE HOST (South Korea, 2006).  Set in a future where a failed climate-change experiment kills all life on the planet except for a lucky few who boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe, where a class system emerges.  Starring Chris Evans (CAPTAIN AMERICA) and Tilda Swinton (ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE)

COHERENCE Sun, September 7.  On the night of an astronomical anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.

PANTANI: THE ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF A CYCLIST  Weds, September 10.  A documentary about the tragic battles fought by the most important Italian cyclist of his generation; man verses mountain, athlete verses addiction, Marco Pantani verses himself.

GOD HELP THE GIRL  Weds, September 17*.  As Eve begins writing songs as a way to sort through some emotional problems, she meets James and Cassie, two musicians each at crossroads of their own.  A musical written and directed by Stuart Murdoch, the lead singer of Belle and Sebastian.  We will follow the Film Club screening with a 40-minute Belle and Sebastian concert video. 

NIGHT MOVES Sat, September 20.   Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning, and Peter Sarsgaard star in the new movie from director Kelly Reichardt (Meek’s Cutoff, Wendy and Lucy).  Three radical environmentalists look to execute the protest of their lives: the explosion of a hydroelectric dam.  On sale soon.

JAWS  Weds, September 24*.  The 1975 Steven Spielberg classic, screened in 35MM!

ALL THIS MAYHEM / WELCOME TO DEATHFEST – WELCOME TO DEATHFEST is an extended short about the Maryland Deathfest music festival, and ALL THIS MAYHEM is a documentary about groundbreaking skateboarders The Pappas Brothers from the director of Senna and Exit Through the Gift Shop.


VIRGINIA INDEPENDENT HORROR FILM FESTIVAL – Sept. 26 & 27.  Movies from regional filmmakers, including features and shorts.  The festival will include weekend passes and some additional titles from around the world.  Tickets go on sale Sept. 1. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE - The original masterpiece in a brand new digital restoration.

TROMA TUESDAY: TROMEO AND JULIET – Tuesday, Sept 9.  One the second Tuesday of each month, we bring another title from TROMA.  On sale soon.

VIDEO VORTEX: DOCTOR BLOODBATH – Tuesday, Sept. 30.  On the last Tuesday of each month, we present a movie that was available on VHS only.  Watch movies on the big screen from a VCR for only $1, and help keep these rare and strange films alive!
