RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION returns as book tour to the Alamo Drafthouse this December!

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION comes to the Alamo Drafthouse – South Lamar this December as part of a nationwide book tour! Celebrating the release of Raiders!: The Story of the Greatest Fan Film Ever Made, the backstory as told by author Alan Eisenstock, the tour includes a screening of the film and a post-show book signing.

Hailed as the most famous shot-for-shot fan film adaptation ever created, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION is the unbelievable brainchild of three ardent teenagers from Mississippi: Chris Strompolos (Indiana Jones/producer), Eric Zala (Dr. René Belloq/director), and Jayson Lamb (cinematographer/editor). Together, these three teens spent seven years of summer vacations and a total of approximately $5,000.00 of their own money achieving a die-hard Indy fan’s ultimate dream, to relive the onscreen action by becoming part of it themselves. Beginning in 1982, before home video copies of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK were available to the public, these kids faced what seems an insurmountable task – to recreate a movie from memory, with only fragments of the whole at their disposal to assist in that recreation. But the miraculous aspect of their story is that they succeeded in their mission and RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION is known today as the most inspiring achievement in the history of fan filmmaking.

Clocking in at 100 minutes, these passionate teens were not kidding around or pulling any punches. With their adaptation, it was go big or go home – and their commitment has assuredly paid its dividends. RAIDERS has enjoyed much success since its first showing, an impromptu, last-minute addition at 2002’s Butt-Numb-a-Thon, followed soon after by an official screening on May 31, 2003 here at the Alamo Drafthouse, a historic event both for us and the filmmakers.

This is a film that champions the spirit of independent production. Most anyone who saw the original RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK in their youth grew up wanting to be Indiana Jones or Marion Ravenwood. These ambitious teens actually realized that dream!

Save the date! RAIDERS returns to South Lamar on Friday, December 7th! Tickets and more information about the screening will be available soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, check out the original trailer for the adaptation, available below.
