Pop-up comic shops! Themed menus! Cosplay nights! GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens this Thursday!

We are only a few days away from the opening of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Marvel Studio's latest big-budget adaptation of a comic book. I was lucky enough to see the film recently and I have to say - it really seems like Marvel has the whole movie making concept down. The film is a whole lot of fun. If you dig witty dialogue, loveable characters, hiss-worthy villains and a fresh take on the superhero genre, I think you're going to be quite keen on GUARIDANS OF THE GALAXY. If you're not a fan of any of these things, though, you should probably stay home and organize your sock drawer.

Chris Pratt stars as Starlord, a human who was abducted by aliens as a kid and now cruises the galaxy making his living as a space pirate. When he finds himself caught up in a terrorist's deadly plot to destroy the galaxy, Starlord assembles a team of misfits to save the day. Based on the cult favorite comic book, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY continues that great Marvel tradition of blending great action with great humor. The jokes fly fast and the scope of the film is right on par with anything you've seen in STAR WARS.

Oh, and I haven't even mentioned the soundtrack! The movie is set to an amazing assemblage of '70s music and the soundtrack becomes a main character in the film. I don't think I really need to say anything more except that if you're a fan of the Alamo Drafthouse, you're going to be a fan of this movie - GUARDIANS is our superhero spirit animal.

I lied - I will say one more thing: Tickets are now on sale. Our tickets for opening weekend are going fast. Don't miss out on your chance to see this movie during the showtime of your choice - buy your ticket right now. Seriously, minimize this window and buy those tickets! I'll be waiting for you to tell you all about the rest of the awesome GUARDIANS-themed fun that's in store for you.

OK. Tickets ordered? Good.

First off - we have a special themed GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY menu for your enjoyment this weekend.

Rocket's Boozed Up Shake - $8

In addition, we have some fun stuff planned for the opening weekend.

At Mason Park this Thursday before our 7:30 PM screening of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, The Pop Culture Company will be in the house to raffle off some goodies - including a Rocket Raccoon plush and some Comic-Con exclusives that were smuggled back to Houston. Don't skip out on this screening if you want a chance to go home with a little extra something-something to show for it.

On Saturday, we're hosting a red carpet superhero shindig at our Vintage Park location. During our primetime round, we'll host some of Houston's best cosplayers - amateur costume enthusiasts who have a tendency to put professional wardrobe people to shame. They'll be taking pictures with guests and hanging out in the lobby - maybe even enjoying some Planet Knowhere Cocktails. In addition, 8th Dimension Comics & Games will be setting up a pop-up comic book shop in our lobby!
